Why Setting a Routine Transformed My Business

When I first started my business, I was still in school and working part-time, fitting in work whenever possible. My days were packed, and I’d squeeze tasks in every free moment, leaving little time for myself. Eventually, it led to burnout—I was irritable, struggling to stay present for my clients, and felt disconnected from the vision I had for my business.

Discovering the Power of Routine

Around this time, COVID hit, and I started running in the mornings to manage stress. I began waking up at 4 AM to run, shower, and prepare for the day ahead. With this quiet time, I discovered how powerful a dedicated morning routine could be. I realized I had time before my other responsibilities to work on my business goals and growth, so I started dedicating these early hours to building the business I envisioned.

Focusing on Growth First Thing

Being naturally a morning person, I found my ideas and plans were clearest in those early hours. Initially, I tried to use that time for client work, but it wasn’t sustainable—there were too many interruptions, like needing authentication codes or responses from clients. So I made a shift: I started using my mornings for growth-focused work. Now, I spend this time on the big-picture goals I once left until the last minute, like quarterly and annual objectives. This shift was transformative, allowing me to actively build my business in a way that aligns with my vision.

Making It Stick

The 4 AM wake-up was tough at first, especially when I was still going to bed late. But I stayed committed, and over time, it became a natural part of my routine. Now, it’s no longer a burden. Starting my day with a clear plan reduces my stress, and I know exactly what I need to do to reach my goals.

Direct Results of the Change

In just a few months, my business has experienced remarkable growth. New clients, new projects, and increased revenue have come from these focused morning sessions. I used to work for my business, always prioritizing client needs. But by setting aside dedicated time to work on my business, I’ve been able to elevate it to new levels.

My Advice to Fellow Entrepreneurs

My biggest takeaway is the importance of setting aside time. You can work 40 hours a week for your business and never see it grow. To truly build something lasting, you need time to focus on goals and long-term vision. If your goal is freedom, set aside time each day to create the business that will allow you to live on your own terms.
