Once when he was 8 years old and once when he was 18. After that, they lost contact. Over the years, my dad tried everything to reconnect. He searched on Facebook, Google, and other online platforms, hoping for a lead. But he never had any luck. Then one day, out of the blue, someone reached out to him through 23andMe. They said they had just discovered they were related. After chatting, we discovered it was his aunt, my grandfather’s sister. The reason they could never find each other? A one-letter difference in our last name. Our family spells it "Chapman" while my grandfather spells it "Chatman." That tiny letter stood in the way of decades of connection. Today, we’re en route to meet my grandfather’s sister. Tomorrow, we’ll meet my grandfather and a whole side of our extended family for the first time. Baby World: The Nursery is Ready On the baby front, things are feeling very real. The nursery is officially set up and ready to welcome Jett. We’ve organized everything we’ve purchased or received so far, and now we’re just waiting on all the thoughtful gifts from the next three baby showers we have planned. It’s wild to see how far we’ve come and how close we are to meeting our little boy. Homebuilding Progress: Drywall and More The house build continues to move forward with momentum. Our amazing drywall crew made major progress throughout the week, and we spent the weekend continuing to knock out insulation above the ceiling drywall in the 10-foot rooms. We also got our master shower sloped and prepped, which is another huge step. Everyone was feeling sore and a little cranky (honestly, who wouldn’t after that much labor in the heat?), but we powered through together. This was officially my last house-building weekend before maternity rest begins. The next work weekend is scheduled for August 9th, and I’ll be too close to my due date to risk being out there. It’s bittersweet, but I know it’s the right time to start stepping back. Prepping for Maternity Leave This upcoming week is all about training. Not because of the money (although yes, that’s frustrating), but because of what it represents. As a business owner, you pour your time, your brain, your energy, and your care into your work. You build relationships. You make space. You go above and beyond. To have that questioned, reversed, or ripped away by a bank without warning? It hurts. But this is part of entrepreneurship too. The not-so-pretty part. I submitted my documentation, outlined the timeline, and made sure every piece of evidence was clear. I have a strong claim. Homebuilding Update: Help Has Arrived This weekend, we hit a major milestone: drywall is finally going in! But this incredible crew didn’t stop there. They: Backfilled our water and electrical lines from the house to the well Burned all our trash (yes, we’re city people and had no idea how to do that safely) Picked up all the construction debris on the land that had kept us from mowing Tackled tons of little things that have been weighing on us for months The relief is real. The load from all those lingering tasks is off my shoulders, and it just feels good to see the progress. One step closer to making this house our home. Baby Countdown: 8 Weeks to Go It’s wild to even type that but we are officially 8 weeks away from meeting baby Jett. We’ve made huge headway in getting everything ready. Every business process is written out and almost all are being delegated. The nursery is nearly complete aside from a few final decorations and whatever sweet gifts we receive at the baby shower. There’s still a lot to do, but for the first time, I’m starting to feel like we’ll actually be ready. Looking Ahead I’m gearing up for another Saturday working on the house and it's most likely my last one before August begins. I need to be resting and not overheating in this Texas heat, especially with baby on the way... unless we get HVAC installed before August then I mayyyyyy go out there because I can't help myself. They’re a mix of in-person and virtual, ranging from consults to strategy calls, and I’m just over here laughing at myself for ever thinking the slow week meant anything was wrong. Sometimes the silence is just the calm before the calendar storm. The Only Goal This Week? Make It Through. With that kind of meeting load, my only real goal is to make it through the week without burning out. And I’ve got a strong motivation for doing just that: I’m taking the holiday weekend completely off. My husband and I didn’t see each other for 9 straight days last week. Between his travel and my client work, we were totally out of sync. And with another packed week ahead, we knew we’d barely cross paths again unless we intentionally  carved out the time. So that’s the plan. We’re soaking up this holiday weekend together, spending time with just the two of us, and prioritizing some much-needed rest and reconnection. Time off isn’t always easy to take but it’s necessary. Especially when you’ve got a baby on the way and the moments as “just us” are numbered in the sweetest way. A Huge House Milestone This past weekend was one for the books and we officially finished every single pre-drywall task. That means… the drywall crew can finally start. And let me tell you, it feels so good. We worked our butts off getting everything finalized. We were sore, bruised, and barely able to move by the end of it. And to top it off, we were one person down since my husband was out of town for work. But we powered through. I looked around at what we accomplished and realized this was one of those milestones we’ll remember forever. Every phase of this house has tested us in new ways, but it’s also brought us so much pride. Drywall is a big one and the house is finally starting to feel real. This week brought something rare for both me and my husband: a slow week . With his athletes off at various summer football camps and one of my clients hitting pause to focus on family and a new full-time role, we suddenly had the one thing every expecting couple prays for... free time . We didn’t waste a second of it. Nursery Progress at Last We finally had the space in our schedule to dive into nursery prep , and it felt so good to make real progress. We cleared out the entire room , tackled a much-needed bedroom rearrangement  (which involved moving a massive lounge chair and dresser), and finally got around to cleaning the nursery and clearing the closet . Let me tell you, it's wild how fast things accumulate when you’re not paying attention. This week, our focus is shifting to the walls and closet : pulling out old nails, removing shelves, patching everything, and mapping out the closet renovation. We’re headed to pick up paint and supplies soon, and we’re also selling and tossing out a ton of old stuff  to make room for baby. It’s starting to feel real in the best way. Every box we move and nail we pull takes us one step closer to bringing our son home. The Journey of Expecting Parents Becoming parents changes everything. It transforms how you view your space, your time, and your priorities. With each decision we make for the nursery, I’m reminded of how much joy this little one will bring into our lives. The colors and decor we choose now will have lasting memories attached to them. When a Client Presses Pause You might be wondering... how did I even get the time to work on all this? Well, like I mentioned, one of my clients recently paused her business to focus on her family and full-time work. It’s always a little painful hitting “place order” on a cart like that, but knowing it’s one step closer to our dream home makes it worth it. Progress in Home Building As we continue this journey, each item we purchase and install brings us one step closer to completing our vision. We can't wait to see it all come together. My dad and husband don’t seem to believe in days off, so we’ll be back at it, picking up where we left off with insulation and preparing more of the interior. A Quick Birthday Getaway In the midst of all this, we made time for a last-minute trip to Austin  to celebrate my husband’s birthday. It was spontaneous, low-key, and exactly what we needed. We were home by Thursday, but those midweek getaways hit differently when you're self-employed. We both love to travel, so we’re making the most of every small window we get before the baby arrives. We’re sticking to Texas for now, so if you’ve got a favorite 2-day trip spot , we’re all ears. Whether it’s small towns, scenic drives, quirky food stops, or relaxing escapes, send them our way! After a packed week of movement in every direction, I’m finally sitting down to reflect on it all and truthfully, it was one of those weeks where everything blurred together in the best kind of way. Cranking Through the Chaos From Monday through Thursday, I was deep in client work, internal systems, and team strategy. It was the kind of work where you finish the day both proud and wiped. But by Thursday afternoon, I started to find pockets to work ahead—and that little shift made all the difference. Sometimes just being 24 hours ahead makes the whole week feel lighter. On top of the client load, I also launched a new Mastermind group. My task of the week? Pick one employee and delegate one task. Seems simple, right? It wasn’t. Not because my team isn’t capable, they are, but because letting go is a skill I’m constantly refining. I haven’t completed the task yet, but I’ll check it off by Tuesday night. Because what kind of leader would I be if I didn’t practice what I preach? The Reality of Entrepreneurship This week, my biggest challenge wasn’t time. It was boundaries. As a business owner, it’s so easy to stay in go-mode: to keep checking things off, to jump in wherever needed, to respond to everything in real time. But that cycle is exhausting if you never pause. I found myself constantly asking: am I doing this because I need to, or because I haven’t trained someone else to do it yet? Spoiler: it was usually the latter. Home and Baby Prep Mode This week, my husband and I finally finished patching the nursery walls. That means one big thing: it's time to paint! We also moved everything we’ve bought or received so far from our bedroom, dining room, and even the garage into the nursery closet. It’s slowly starting to feel like a real space, and every step gets us closer to bringing baby Jett home. On the home front, I took all day Friday and Saturday off to deep clean and declutter the kitchen and laundry room. It was a big job, but the mental clarity I gained was 100 percent worth it. It’s amazing how preparing your space can help you feel more emotionally and mentally prepared too. We also did a massive round of postpartum meal prep. So far we’ve knocked out: 30 protein waffles 240 homemade chicken nuggets 27 chicken burritos Knowing those are stocked and ready gives me so much peace of mind for those early newborn days. Oh, and guess what? I have my maternity pictures this week! I haven’t posted much of my bump online, but if you’ve seen me in person, you know that I am definitely bumpin. I can’t wait to capture this chapter and celebrate everything my body is doing. Looking Ahead This week reminded me that support doesn’t just happen. It has to be created, nurtured, and refined. After a few slower weeks and mini getaways, this past week brought us right back to the hustle, and honestly, it felt really good. A Full (and Fulfilling) Business Week Business officially picked back up, and it was one of those packed-to-the-brim kind of weeks. Between client meetings, team check-ins, and onboarding projects, I felt like I blinked and it was already Friday. I even made it to One Million Cups for the first time in a while, and I didn’t realize how much I missed that rhythm and community until I was back in it. I always leave those meetings feeling inspired and reenergized. My husband was on the exact same grind with long snapping lessons every single day in different parts of town. It’s wild how similar our schedules get when both of our businesses are running at full capacity. There’s a certain chaos to it, but we thrive in it, especially when we’re both seeing real momentum. Homebuilding Update: Ceiling Milestone Achieved We also squeezed in another house building weekend (of course) and made a huge dent in one of our biggest tasks so far, insulating all the exterior walls. That was no small feat. My body is definitely feeling it, but finishing that step means we can are one step closer to finally contract out our drywall team. We just need to finish insulating the 18ft ceilings and then they will be ready to come help us hang, tape, and float the tallest areas of the house. It's a huge weight off our shoulders (literally and figuratively), and we’re celebrating that progress. As always, every time we check off a big task like this, it makes moving into our home in 2026 feel that much closer. Baby World Updates In the middle of all the busyness, nursery progress slowed a little, but not because we aren’t excited. We just didn’t have as much free time this week, and that’s okay. We’re still moving forward with the plan we laid out, just at a pace that matches real life right now. I also had my glucose test on Monday, and I was bracing for the worst… but honestly, it wasn’t that bad. Not delicious, but also not the horror story I had worked up in my head. I failed that one and had to do the 3-hour test and passed! Every week, it hits me just how fast this pregnancy is moving. Jett will be here before we know it. Celebrating Father’s Day Father’s Day was yesterday, and I couldn’t let this week go by without sharing what a sweet day it was. Even though Jett’s still on the way, we celebrated my husband because he’s already such an amazing dad in every way that counts. From the way he talks to my belly, to how hard he’s working to build our home and future, he’s shown up fully for this journey every step of the way. We got him the funniest card, and a matching shirt and onesie set for him and Jett. Let’s just say, it got some laughs and probably some tears (not just from me!). It was the perfect little moment in a busy season to stop, reflect, and celebrate the kind of man and father he is becoming. Some weeks are slow and reflective. Others are fast and full of movement. This one was all motion, but in the best way. We’re hitting big milestones in every corner of our life right now, in business, in homebuilding, and in our journey to becoming parents.
