Nursery Progress, Business Reality, and a Few Sweet Texas Adventures

This week brought something rare for both me and my husband: a slow week.
With his athletes off at various summer football camps and one of my clients hitting pause to focus on family and a new full-time role, we both suddenly had the one thing every expecting couple prays for... free time. And we didn’t waste a second of it.
Nursery Progress at Last
We finally had the space in our schedule to dive into nursery prep, and it felt so good to make real progress. We cleared out the entire room, tackled a much-needed bedroom rearrangement (which involved moving a massive lounge chair and dresser), and finally got around to cleaning the nursery and clearing the closet.
Let me tell you, it's wild how fast things accumulate when you’re not paying attention. This week, our focus is shifting to the walls and closet: pulling out old nails, removing shelves, patching everything, and mapping out the closet reno. We’re headed to pick up paint and supplies soon, and we’re also selling and tossing out a ton of old stuff to make room for baby.
It’s starting to feel real in the best way. Every box we move and nail we pull is one step closer to bringing our son home.
When a Client Presses Pause
You might be wondering... how did I even get the time to work on all this?
Well, like I mentioned, one of my clients recently paused her business to focus on her family and full-time work. As an entrepreneur, it’s never easy to lose a client, especially one you’ve built a relationship with and supported through so many business moments.
But I also completely understand. I’ve been in that exact place, juggling too much and feeling like something had to give. Sometimes the business takes a backseat to life, and that’s more than okay.
This is the reality of entrepreneurship. Clients come and go. Revenue ebbs and flows. But at the end of the day, these shifts give us space to grow in new directions. For me, it gave me the gift of time this week and I used it wisely.
Big Purchases, Big Steps
Of course, no week is complete without a little house building update.
We just made some HUGE purchases: every ceiling light for the house, all our chandeliers, sliding glass doors, and wait for it... our 96” fan for the living room. (Yes, it’s massive. Yes, it’s going to look amazing.) We came across some incredible deals we couldn’t pass up, so we took the plunge.
It’s always a little painful hitting “place order” on a cart like that, but knowing it’s one step closer to our dream home makes it worth it.
And yes… another house building weekend is coming. My dad and husband don’t seem to believe in days off, so we’ll be back at it, picking up where we left off with insulation and getting more of the interior ready.
A Quick Birthday Getaway
We did sneak in some fun this past week with a last-minute trip to Austin to celebrate my husband’s birthday. It was spontaneous, low-key, and exactly what we needed. We were home by Thursday, but those midweek getaways hit differently when you're self-employed.
We both love to travel, so we’re making the most of every small window we get before baby arrives. We’re sticking to Texas for now, so if you’ve got a favorite 2-day trip spot, we’re all ears. Whether it’s small towns, scenic drives, quirky food stops, or relaxing escapes, send them our way!
Some weeks are full of chaos and hustle. Others are quiet, productive, and healing in a different way. This week was a little mix of both and a reminder that life and business ebb and flow, and that slowness is sometimes exactly what you need to move forward.
Thanks for following along with our journey through building, baby prep, business shifts, and everything in between.
See you next week.
