The Week Started Rough
As I write this blog, I am extremely sick. I have been sick for ten days now, and no matter what I try, vitamins, cold medicine, flu medicine, I just cannot seem to shake it. It feels very similar to when I had COVID in the past. The fatigue, sore throat, and overall malaise just linger. Yesterday was the worst. I had shivers, could not sleep, and I am fairly certain I had a fever. My body finally forced me to slow down in a way I had been resisting.
Jett has even picked up a little sniffle, which adds another layer to the week. Watching him feel under the weather, even just a little, makes me realize that life does not pause when we are sick. We still have responsibilities and commitments, and we have to figure out how to keep moving forward while also caring for ourselves and those we love.
The Lesson About Rest
I have to admit, I probably should have rested last week, but I did not. I pushed through Monday and Tuesday, attending meetings and forcing myself to keep working while taking a handful of medications to get through the days. By Friday and Saturday, I was physically working on the house. I did labor and heavy lifting, thinking I could just push through it.
Sunday came, and my body gave out completely. I had shivers and extreme fatigue, and I knew I had ignored all the warning signs. This week has been a stark reminder that listening to your body is not optional. It is essential. Pushing too hard delays recovery and adds stress, making everything else feel more chaotic. Now, I am allowing myself a full day of recovery so the week ahead can be manageable.
House Progress and Excitement
Even while under the weather, the house is coming together beautifully. Flooring has started in the great room, and the entire living room is complete. Baseboards and door trims are painted and installed. The cabinets and sink are in place, and the details that turn a house into a home are falling into place.
We are even taking care of the less glamorous tasks, like handling the black widows and scorpions that have made themselves at home. Move-in is only two weeks away, and although packing has not progressed, it is exciting to see the vision we have been building for so long starting to feel real. It is a mixture of anticipation and satisfaction to see the home nearing completion.
Business Wins and Growth
In the business world, things are thriving. Despite being sick and falling a little behind, we are keeping up with client work and accomplishing more than I expected. Growth is exciting, but it also brings new decisions.
I have been thinking more about hiring a full-time employee. Right now, we have two full-time team members and several part-timers and contractors. Bringing someone on full-time feels like a big leap, but it may be necessary to sustain growth and continue delivering at the level we want. It is intimidating, but it is also an exciting step forward for the business.
Reflections and Lessons Learned
This week has been a reminder of the importance of balance. Ignoring the signals from your body does not make the work go away. It only creates more stress and delays progress.
Even while sick, I have learned to celebrate the wins, both in the business and in the house.
Delegation, trusting your team, and allowing yourself to rest are all crucial elements of sustainable growth. It is a lesson I hope I will carry forward for the rest of this year and beyond.
Looking Ahead
Next week, my goal is full recovery, continued progress on the house, and careful steps toward growing the business in a sustainable way. Life will always have challenges, but balance, patience, and intentional action allow us to keep moving forward without feeling completely overwhelmed.
Even in sickness, chaos, and uncertainty, there is growth, progress, and excitement when we honor both our limits and our goals.
