Back Home After a Once-in-a-Lifetime Trip
I’m writing this week’s blog from the comfort of my couch, finally back in College Station after being away for 9 days on a family road trip. And not just any trip, we met my biological grandfather for the first time.
It was emotional, meaningful, and something I’ll never forget. Reconnecting after so many years apart (due to a simple one-letter spelling difference in last names, believe it or not) made us realize how small the world can be when you're meant to find someone again. My dad hadn’t seen him since he was a teenager, and now here we are, rebuilding a relationship three generations deep.
It reminded me just how precious time and family really are. And that some things are worth pausing the hustle for.
Slowing Down Isn’t Always a Choice. Sometimes It’s a Demand
After we returned, I immediately had my baby shower on Saturday (which was absolutely beautiful). But I’ll be honest, I pushed myself a little too hard. Between travel, setup, and the full day of celebration, I started experiencing intense Braxton Hicks and had to pause everything to track and time them. It wasn’t just a “slow down” moment. It was my body saying, “Hey, I’m serious.”
Sunday and Monday were all about catching my breath... literally and figuratively. I tackled laundry, cleaned up, restocked the fridge, and slowly started easing back into my normal routine.
For My Fellow Business Owners: Give Yourself Grace
As entrepreneurs, we tend to beat ourselves up for falling behind. I was two days late writing this blog, and for a minute, I felt that creeping pressure to apologize, catch up, and overcompensate. But then I remembered something I always remind my clients and myself:
Did anyone die?
Did the world end?
Will this matter in five years?
If the answer to all of those is no, then you’re fine. Breathe. Reset. Pick back up when you can.
The beauty of building your own business is that you set the pace. And sometimes the pace needs to be slower, softer, or simply paused so you can care for yourself. That doesn’t mean you’re failing. It means you’re human.
Looking Ahead
As we roll into the final stretch before baby Jett arrives, I’m embracing this season with more grace, intention, and realism. Life is full and so is my heart.
If you needed the permission to take a beat today, let this blog be your sign.
You’re doing just fine.
See you next week.
