When Life Hits Hard and Business Keeps Moving

A Wild Week of Highs and Lows

This past week has been one of the most intense and emotional weeks I can remember. It was filled with big wins, family moments, heartbreaking losses, and even some very close calls that reminded me how precious life really is.

On the business side, I was in back-to-back meetings and started diving into some heavy project work for clients. I even pushed myself a little by attending Lunch Bunch only three and a half weeks postpartum. It felt good to be back in a familiar environment, but it was also overwhelming. I had to remind myself more than once that I am still recovering and adjusting to life with a newborn.

At home, I began fully caring for Jett at night so that my mom can start transitioning back to her own routine. It has been both exhausting and rewarding. Those long hours in the middle of the night are tough, but they are also the moments where I realize just how strong I can be. My mom has been my rock these last few weeks, and as she prepares to return home, I wanted to do something special for her. So I surprised my parents with a date night at Primrose Path. It was exactly what they needed. My mom cried tears of joy because she truly needed a break from all things baby, and seeing her and my dad enjoy themselves was one of my highlights of the week.

But alongside the joy, there was grief. On Friday night we lost a close family friend from church, and that loss weighed heavily on all of us. Then, as if emotions were not already running high, I had a terrifying experience while driving the next day. Someone ran a red light going at least fifty miles per hour. In an instant, they hit the motorcyclist next to me, and if I had not been paying attention, they would have struck the side of my car where Jett was sitting. I still get chills thinking about how close it was. Thankfully, the motorcyclist was able to walk away and was taken to the hospital. That moment was a huge reminder of how quickly things can change and how important it is to stay present.

And as if that was not enough, our property in Bremond had its own drama. A U-Haul trailer detached, rolled onto our land, destroyed part of our fence, knocked the ground wire off our electric pole, and started a fire. Within minutes there were four police cars there. Later, College Station PD came to our door with more details about the incident, which made feel reassured that in the future, they now know how to reach us right away if something happens again. It was pure chaos, but also a strange reminder that systems work and that community matters.

Business in the Middle of Chaos

Even with all of this happening in my personal life, I still showed up for my business. Projects moved forward. Clients were served. Team meetings happened. Not because I am superhuman, but because I have built systems and a team that support me even in the wildest of weeks.

This week drove home a truth I want every entrepreneur to remember: business ownership is not about preventing chaos, it is about learning how to lead through it.

There will be weeks when everything feels heavy. Weeks where you face loss, fear, exhaustion, and frustration. Those weeks do not define your ability to succeed. What matters is how you adapt, how you delegate, and how you keep moving forward even in small ways.

Guidance for Business Owners

If I could offer guidance to any business owner reading this, it would be this:

  • Do not try to carry it all yourself. Whether it is family, friends, or your business team, lean on the people around you. Let them support you when you cannot do it all.

  • Redefine progress. Sometimes success is closing a big deal. Other times it is sending a single email. Progress is progress, even when it feels small.

  • Take care of yourself. I learned this the hard way after dealing with a clogged duct and flu-like symptoms. Your body will force you to stop if you refuse to rest.

  • Hold onto your why. In the middle of the chaos, remembering why you started your business and who you are building it for will keep you grounded.

Looking Ahead

This week was proof that life can be both overwhelming and beautiful all at once. There were moments where I wanted to crumble, but there were also moments of deep gratitude. I am thankful for my family, my team, and the systems that keep my business moving even when my personal life feels like a storm.

As we step into a new week, I am focusing on catching my breath, finishing client projects, and giving myself permission to rest when I need it. Because the truth is, both in business and in life, you cannot control everything. But you can control how you show up, how you adapt, and how you keep moving forward.

Here is to showing up in imperfect, messy, but meaningful ways.
