A Long Journey, A Perfect Arrival
It’s official!!! On Sunday, August 24th, we welcomed our baby boy into the world. After a 38-hour labor that ended in an emergency C-section, Jett was born weighing 8 lbs, 8 oz. It was long, exhausting, and emotional, but the moment I held him, I knew it was all worth it. He is the cutest little thing, and I am so in love.
Balancing Work and Motherhood from the Start
Even during labor, I found myself doing what I’ve always done: working. I was still checking off to-dos, contacting clients, and staying on top of projects. Once we were home from the hospital, I leaned on my team to fill in the gaps while I rested and healed. By Wednesday, I felt ready to start easing back into work, and honestly, it felt good. Getting back to my business gave me a sense of normalcy and reminded me of who I am outside of this new role as “mom.”
Sometimes Jett is on my chest while I type away, and sometimes I pass him off to my husband or mom so I can fully focus. Either way, being able to work, even in small bursts, makes me feel like myself again. It has been a reminder that you don’t have to choose between being a good mom and being a dedicated business owner. You can be both.
A Scary Start and a Big Shift
Our first week home came with its share of worries. At his first appointment, Jett wasn’t gaining weight quickly enough to get back to his birth weight. That meant daily appointments, a lot of stress, and plenty of tears. The solution for us was switching from direct breastfeeding to exclusively pumping and measuring everything he eats. It’s been a journey, but it’s working. He’s now eating a ton, and he’s gaining weight beautifully.
Those early days reminded me that parenthood is about flexibility and finding what works best for your family, even if it’s not what you originally envisioned.
Finding Myself Again
Today, I feel good. Really good. The sleepless nights are evening out into a routine, and I feel like a million dollars compared to last week. I’m more myself, I have energy again, and I’m embracing the little moments, both with my son and with my business.
Advice for Business Owners on This Journey
If you’re a business owner preparing for parenthood, here’s my biggest piece of advice: give yourself grace.
I gave myself grace when labor started, when I was recovering, and when I stepped back into work. I didn’t rush into anything before I was ready, but when I felt that spark to come back, I followed it. That balance has been key.
Your business will be fine. Your team can step in. And when you’re ready to return, the work will still be there. Trust yourself to know when the right time is.
Looking Ahead
This first week of motherhood has been overwhelming, beautiful, and transformative. I know the journey is just beginning, but I’m stepping into it with gratitude for my family, my business, and the ability to be both a present mom and a strong business owner.
Here’s to the next chapter: One that’s sure to be full of growth in every way possible.
