Preparing for Another Weekend of Working on Our House

Another weekend is here, which means one thing...we’re gearing up for more progress on our 6,000 sq ft barndominium! Building a house from the ground up is no small task, but doing it alongside my husband and parents has made the process both rewarding and memorable. Every weekend, we chip away at our to-do list, turning this dream into reality, one project at a time.

What We’re Working on This Weekend

This weekend, we’re tackling some of the biggest milestones yet:

  • Rough-in Plumbing – Making sure all the pipes and connections are in place before we move forward with the next phase. Plumbing is one of those things you really don’t want to mess up, so we’re taking our time to get it right.

  • Electrical Trim Out – We’re installing outlets, switches, and finalizing the wiring to bring power throughout the house. This step gets us one step closer to flipping the switch and seeing the house truly come to life.

  • Pulling the Remaining A/V Cable – With a fully wired home setup, having the right A/V infrastructure is crucial. We’re finishing up pulling cables for the speakers, displays, and networking to make sure everything is set up exactly how we envisioned.

The Team Behind It All

One of the best parts about this build is that it’s truly a family effort. My husband and I, along with my parents, have been working together every step of the way. We split up the tasks, whether it’s plumbing and electrical or cabling and planning, and it’s been amazing to see how much we can accomplish as a team.

It’s a lot of work, but knowing that we’re building this home with our own hands makes every long day, every late night, and every sore muscle worth it.

Looking Ahead

Each weekend brings us closer to move-in day, and while there’s still plenty to do, we’re making steady progress. Soon, we’ll be shifting our focus to insulation, drywall, and all the finishing touches that will transform this barndominium from a worksite into a home.

Until then, we’ll keep putting in the time, celebrating the small wins, and reminding ourselves that all the hard work now will be so worth it in the end.

If you’ve ever built or renovated a home, you know how much work goes into it! I’d love to hear your best tips for staying motivated during a big project like this.
